A cover version or simply cover in pop music is an original version of either recording or performance of past recorded songs. Billboard and other magazines recording the popularity of the musical artists and hit songs that was originally measured the sales success of the published song not just recordings of that certain song, or later the “on air” play that it also managed to achieve. Cover version originally implied a equal version of a song recorded by an artist subsequent to an original version. Subsequent to the mid-20th century the concept of an original version of a popular melody would, of course, have seemed somewhat odd in the production of musical entertainment being seen basically as a live event, even if one that was reproduced at home via a copy of the sheet music, learned by heart. Famous musicians and present listeners have now begun to use the word “cover” to refer to any remake of a previously recorded song. |
